A real Brew film · brew.fm/bart

  • The people inside your library, found by sound - not genres
  • Your four letters, spelled out - and roasted
  • A film and cards to post, cut to your own songs

The four letters, and what each one reads

Intimate or Kinetic: whether your taste - weighted toward the side you reach for most - leans to close, quiet music (folk, soul, piano, ambient) or music built to move (house, techno, drum and bass, trap).

Focused or Eclectic: how many distinct sides your library splits into - a few close ones, or a roster.

Rooted or Rising: whether one side of your taste is taking over lately while another fades, or whether you keep coming back to the same places.

Mainstream or Niche: how popular the artists you play are on Spotify, averaged across your library.

Why sound, not genres

Genre tags are added by people, and for a lot of artists Spotify has none at all. brew works from the audio instead, so two songs land close together because they sound alike, whatever they are labeled.

That is how it can tell your late-night side from your gym side even when both are filed under the same genre - and how it finds a song by an artist who isn’t in your library yet, sitting right in the middle of the side you play most.

Questions people ask

Is it free?
Yes. The whole reading is free - your sides, your four letters, your type and the film. Brew only charges for living playlists that keep adding new releases ($49 once, no subscription), and you never need them for the test.
What does brew read from my Spotify?
Your library and the artists you listen to, through Spotify’s own sign-in. It reads them to place your songs on its map of sound; it doesn’t post anything or change your playlists.
How long does it take?
About a minute the first time, because brew listens to every artist in your library. After that your reading opens instantly.
Do I have to give brew my password?
No. You sign in through Spotify’s own login page, and brew reads your library from there. It never sees your password and never posts anything for you. brew is independent and not affiliated with Spotify.
